The dates inscripted on the photograph: 09.08.2001-02.05.2003 represents the actual period of exposure used by Wesley to capture the image. It is part of the series ‘Open Shutter’ (2001-2004), commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York to record the re-development of their building. Michael Wesley holds the record – the secret, as well – for using the longest exposures in history. He argued 40 years long exposures are not solely fantasies, either.
